Söndags-smakbit # 26

Bloggen Betraktelser ger oss på söndagar chansen att publicera ett litet smakprov ur en bok vi läser.
Jag läser The vaster Wilds av Lauren Groff
Jag har länkat titeln till GoodReads där du kan läsa mer om boken.
Smakbit sid 35
”And now she saw herself as she often did in heightened moments, as though from the air, like a hovering bird or the moon itself. She saw herself a black and creeping thing across the slick greenish surface of the ice, the snow crystals glistening and catching and throwing shards of moonlight.
Once, she felt the heel of her left boot going through the fine surface of ice, touching the water of the river beneath, but she was already in the air toward the next footstep and this second landed solid and held, and she ran faster; knowing how close she had come to plunging into the river, she flew, and speed and fear had become her sails.”

sid 114
”But that first night of her fresh arrival in the house, born again out of the horrors and darknesses of the poorhouse, after the cook had burnt the girls filthy gown and bathed her with scolding water and plucked the lice and nits from her head and put her back into a fresh linen shift that had been swiftly sewed just for her, she had fallen asleep with her head upon the kitchen table and it was the most comfortable bed she had yet known.”
